Pradollano ski and snowboard resort

Hotels and apartments in Sierra Nevada >>>
Pradollano is the Ski and Snowboarding Resort in the Sierra Nevada. It is Europe's southernmost ski and snowboarding station, located just 31 kms outside of Granada city and less than 45 km (26 mi) away from The Tropical Coast. It enjoys more hours of daylight and sunshine than any other ski resort in Europe. However, most of its slopes face north-east so it is also guaranteed to have optimum snow conditions throughout the entire season (generally lasting from November to May). It's also the only ski resort from which you can see the sea whilst skiing or snowboarding!
Pradollano in the Sierra Nevada is just one of the three urban areas that make up the municipality of Monachil, situated 14 km away from the small town of Monachil. However, thanks to the Pradollano Ski Resort (formerly known as 'Solynieve') with its 62 km of ski slopes, in winter it turns into the real tourism hub of the entire Sierra Nevada. The ski and snowboarding slopes of the Pradollano (Solynieve) Resort are usually open from November until April, depending on weather conditions. Throughout the ski and snowboarding season Pradollano enjoys a vibrant nightlife or "après ski", meaning the slopes are usually abandoned until midday the following day.

Solynieve
The Ski Resort, which has been renamed Pradollano, was previously known as Solynieve and is often still referred to as such by ski veterans in the Sierra Nevada.
Pradollano (Solynieve) in the Sierra Nevada is one of the best ski resorts both in Spain and the rest of Europe in terms of infrastructure (access routes, mechanical equipment, quality of slopes, etc), thanks to investments made in the leadup to the 1996 Alpine Skiing World Championships. Pradollano has also been dramatically improved in terms of appearance with the introduction of various green zones and building projects in keeping with the high standards expected of mountain ski resorts. Occasionally it is also possible to ski at night (on certain Saturdays).
Without doubt, the main appeal of the Sierra Nevada is its amazing meteorology as more than 70% of days throughout the snow season are sunny, allowing visitors to enjoy unbeatable conditions while skiing and snowboarding and at the same time maintaining excellent snow conditions due to its high altitude location. While skiing takes place at an altitude of 1,000 meters in other European ski resorts, skiers in the Sierra Nevada can practice the sport at an altitude of 3,000 meters. The quality of the snow is maintained in perfect conditions thanks to the resort's high altitude location that extends from an altitude of 2,100 meters in Pradollano's town square to the 3,470 meter heights of La Veleta, reaching a snow depth of 3 meters in Borreguiles. So in Spring, it's not unusual to enjoy skiing and snowboarding at temperatures high enough to wear a swimming costume.
Ski and Snowboarding Conditions
The Sierra Nevada and Pradollano (Solynieve) Ski Resort's high altitude location (at 2,100 - 3,300m above sea level) guarantees that there is almost always a thick covering of snow throughout the winter months, with the first snow caps forming in November. As a result, the Sierra Nevada enjoys one of the longest ski and snowboarding seasons in the whole of Europe (from the end of November to the middle of May), with the exception of ski stations located in glacier regions. Furthermore, if at some stage during the ski and snowboarding season there happens to be no snow the resort is fully equipped with 428 snow machines that can cover ski slopes of up to 31.80 kms in length.
Prices in the Pradollano resort tend to be lower than those offered by similar ski resorts in the Pyrenees and the rest of Europe and are very reasonable considering the quality of infrastructure on offer and the variety of services available.
Pradollano; A base for the Sierra Nevada all year long
Thanks to the support of its conglomerations, in winter Pradollano is the only place in the Sierra Nevada that has the infrastructure necessary to support large numbers of tourists, both during and outside of the ski and snowboarding season. In Pradollano the hotels, restaurants, bars and, above all, the environment are all geared towards helping visitors to make the most of their stay in the mountains and fully enjoy the snow and sun. This small resort in the municipality of Monachil in the Sierra Nevada is the perfect place in which to enjoy doing all kinds of activities all year long.
